Bastianelli Fundraiser (3/9/08

Yesterday, was a very special day.  I was invited by Dr. Harry Webster, Chief of Pediatric Rehabilitation at Tufts Medical Center, to speak at a fundraiser in Newton, MA for Melissa & Matthew Bastianelli, two amazing kids who have Cerebral Palsy.  I was honored to be a guest speaker at this event, which was attended by over two hundred of the Bastianelli’s family and friends, and the evening was a great success.  It was so nice to meet Melissa and Matthew, and the entire Bastianelli family.  Melissa and Matthew’s uncle sang a beautiful song in Italian to his niece and nephew, and it was nice to feel a part of such a meaningful event.  I was a little nervous to speak at first, and I was surprised to have received a standing ovation, and even more surprised when the Bastianelli family presented with an “Above and Beyond Award - for outstanding contributions towards expanding awareness of Cerebral Palsy”.  It meant a lot to me, and it made the night even more special.  I was proud to present the Bastianelli family with a check for $300 which was raised for them through ColtonCares.com.  They are a very nice family, and they deserve to have everything they need for Matthew and Melissa.  All in all, it was a great night and a lot of fun.  Thank you to the Bastianelli family, and Dr. Webster for including me in such a special event!  I’ll be posting pictures on my site very soon!

    Colton,

I enjoyed reading your post, and I agree with you that last night was a very special evening. The Bastianelli’s are indeed a wonderful family, and Melissa and Matthew are two extraordinary kids. I am very proud of you for speaking so well in front of so many people, and for receiving such a special and meaningful award from such a terrific family. I hope you continue to reach out to help others, and to be a voice for your cause. There is nothing better than the feeling that comes from using your own unique gifts to touch the lives of others. Keep up the great work, and may last night always remain a special memory in your heart.

    I love you,
    Mom
